Procedurally, there's progress on Alameda's Otis Drive. (Good news.) But in the physical world, it's still the exact same unsafe "highway" that it's been for decades. (Bad news.)
Another crash at Otis and Broadway on Friday evening warranted a response from the Fire Dept (not just the Police Dept; meaning that injuries were involved):
Since my last blog post about Otis, there have also been a couple of crashes on Otis near South Shore Center (also of enough severity to warrant a Fire Dept response):
While that section of roadway next to South Shore Center is owned by the city (not by Caltrans), it also suffers from having a configuration of multiple auto-thru lanes in each direction.
Meetings are import, process is important, public engagement is important – and in the end what matters for traffic safety is when we realize real change in the real world.
